I have a pair of model 19's with the 802-8g drivers in them.....I replaced both original diagprams with the 802 replacement from bill at great plains........my original diapraghms had the part # 23744 and I read on some old altec literature that these diagphrams in the 802-8g's were made with lighter epoxies and had superior hf response past 10khz........I am wondering if anyone has tested the new replacements that bill makes to see if they have the same extended hf response as the original ones in the 802-8g's......any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hi Brad,
I ran a side by side comparison of the 23744 and a 21597 aluminum tangential compliance diaphragms in a pair of 806-8A drivers, and 811B horns, I used 8.2mfd Bennic caps for the crossovers. I tried all kinds of different music, I couldn't detect a bit of difference in their sound quality, maybe some people just have overactive imaginations?? They both sounded excellent!! I only have 16 ohm diaphragms from Bill so it's impossible to compare it to an 8 ohm diaphragm, apples and oranges you might say!!

The 806-8a's were never said to have a drastic change in the diaphragms as did the 802-8g's did .
They (802-8g) were changed for superior high freq response in home use.....(less power handling).....so I am wondering if anyone has had diaphragms replaced in a model 19 from bill and compared them to the original.....any help greatly appreciated
thanks

This was an earlier post from the message board that is stating exactly what I have heard:
"The 802-8G used a completely redesigned diaphragm that this person stated was a back to basics concept. In other words, it was similar to that used in the very first 802. It used a very thin and light diaphragm that had the minimal clearance necessary to safely function in a home speaker. He said that the same extension could be achieved with this new diaphragm using the older circumferential phase plug. Testing revealed no significant differences in response."
MY question is "do the replacement diaphragms from great plains have the superior hf response as the original 802-8g's did?"
thanks

I have NOT done a side by side comparison, but I do have the replacement diaphrams from Great Plains on my 802-8g drivers for my Model-15 speakers. I could not detect any difference between the two. But then again I'm almost 50 living in the US, so I'm sure I have some upper frequency hearing loss.
